Types of Content
There are many different types of content:
- Client
- Self-Generated
- Wikipedia or other Third Party Sites
- User Generated Content
Client
- When you work with clients as a freelance designer, they would sometimes provide you with the content needed for the product if they already have it prepared.
- A common question asked to clients is “do you need new content written on your website/app?”
- Content may come in the form of word documents. Sometimes the content may be too much and it’s the job of the designer to make it accessible and digestible.
- Could also come in the form of data tables, graphs, a PowerPoint presentation of images
Self-Generated
- This is when the designers produce the content themselves.
- Content can be written, visual, etc.
- Iconography, images, videos, blogs, etc.
Wikipedia or other Third Party Sites
- Content that is written by users of Wikipedia or third party sites
- Because it is from users of those sites, you need to make sure they are reliable first if it is for research
User Generated Content
- When users of the app are the ones populating the site with content.
- TikTok, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube
- Can be images, short-form videos, long-form videos, captions, likes, comments, etc.
- This is also a form of design.
- Content here are shared via its users and the algorithm of the app.
